India's all-format allrounder Hardik Pandya has seen a jump up from Grade B (INR 3 Cr) to Grade A (INR 5 Cr) in India's annual contract list (October 2020-September 2021). Also making an upward movement is Shardul Thakur. The Mumbai pacer overcame his forgettable Test debut (against West Indies in 2018) to make an impact in India's incredible tour Down Under. He moves from Grade C (INR 1 crore) to B. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's lengthy injury layoff and India's growing list of fast bowlers has seen the Meerut pacer demoted to Grade B.

A couple of other unlikely heroes of that Australia tour - Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj - have been handed a Grade C contract. Axar Patel, who more than made up for the absence of the injured Ravindra Jadeja during the England Tests, is also part of the same list. Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav, the two Grade C white-ball players who are now out of favour, have not been given a contract.

India's leg spin pairing of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have also slipped down the contract pecking order, both getting Grade C. Kuldeep endured a tough year as he remained an unused member of India's squad in Australia. In fact, Kuldeep's last Test appearance before playing against England in Chennai in February 2021 came more than a year ago.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah retained their A+ contract (INR 7 cr) while the BCCI handed Grade A contracts to 10 players, Grade B to 5 and Grade C to 10.
