Shikhar Dhawan continues his golden run in the IPL with yet-another fifty

Shikhar Dhawan continues his golden run in the IPL with yet-another fifty

Hindsight is never a nice thing to use in judging losses. But if Punjab were to try, it's KL Rahul's innings they'll probably pick out here. 195 is really a lot but a 51-ball 61 in conditions as flat as this is never ideal. Perhaps Gayle's spot in the team needs to be looked into as well. Anyway, we'll leave it at this for now. Hope you enjoyed reading this section, and until next time, ta ta!!

Mazher Arshad @MazherArshad The biggest factor behind Punjab's loss today is KL Rahul's 61 off 51 balls. Match run-rate 10.25. He consumed 51 balls [42 percent of inns resources] with a run-rate of just 7.17. #IPL 05:50 PM • Apr 04, 2021

Yep, it is. When you're chasing 196, you expect it to at least go into the final over, but no, Delhi Captials have been brutal enough to seal this with 10 balls to spare. Stoinis cuts loose, Lalit Yadav smacks a few, and they pile on the platform that Dhawan set up.

It's a ruthless game. It's a ruthless ground. Mo Shami -- 4-0-53-0. Stoinis has taken him to the cleaners for 20 off his final over, and that's brought the equation to under a run-a-ball. That's surely the game ..

That's all. 92 is all it will be. Jhye Richardson produces a top slower delivery, aiming for the blockhole and foxing Dhawan's attempted shuffling scoop to clean him up. The asking rate is still in the eights. But is there a twist?

Hello, hello, Shikhar Dhawan bags the orange cap as well. It was only a matter of time!

Okay, he's not just batting, he's toying with the field at the moment. He's walking across his stumps, scooping balls, then walking away from it and slashing them through point when the bowler overcorrects. This is a proper masterclass of mind-messing ..

Shikhar Dhawan: FIFTY, again. 31 balls | 8 fours .. He's the anchor, keeping the chase on track.

Prithvi Shaw c Gayle b Arshdeep Singh 32(17)-- Once again, it's the short ball that's brought about his fall. And as expected, Delhi's innings too has slowed down considerably since he's gone. Steve Smith's dealing in singles so far. Dhawan's gone a tad quiet as well.

If you have to draw equivalents, Delhi are off to just as quick a start as Punjab were. Shaw is doing an Agarwal. Dhawan is doing it quicker than Rahul. The bowlers are a proper swap, just getting smacked all around.

195 it will be. The overseas imports, Gayle and Pooran don't do much, but the local Indian uncapped boys in Deepak Hooda and Shahrukh Khan produce a nice cameo towards the end. Having said that, Delhi wouldn't be too unhappy either. They've pulled things back here rather well, and this pitch is already a belter, even without the dew. So, save your nails, a fascinating chase awaits ..

Just a reminder: It's Rahul's birthday. So keeping up with the birthday spirit, he was dropped twice. But that's it, his luck's over, he miscues Rabada and holes out in the deep. The scorecard will tell you he's scored 61 off 51, and that's quite disappointing on a pitch as flat as this, but what it doesn't tell you is the perfect foil he was to Agarwal.

Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha A birthday half century for Rahul. He has to dominate the second half now like Mayank Agarwal so delightfully controlled the first for @PunjabKingsIPL 03:07 PM • Apr 04, 2021

Lukman Meriwala -- Maiden IPL wicket. At this stage, it just doesn't get bigger than Agarwal's. Quite a sweet feeling after the first over punishment that he was put under. Still, Agarwal can be pleased. 69 runs | 36 balls, and a 122-run stand in just 12.4 overs. He's put Punjab on course for 200!

He may've taken three games to arrive, oh, but arrive he has.MAYANK AGARWAL -- Fifty | 25 balls | 7 fours | 2 sixes. Surely there's a century coming.

Ashwin - Smashed. Rabada - Smashed. Lalit Yadav - Smashed. Woakes - Smashed. Meriwala - Smashed the most. Avesh Khan is yet to bowl! This is carnage ..

Very quickly, Mayank Agarwal joins the party, and like that annoying friend, steals the limelight ..he's smashing them around for fun here, scoring at a strike-rate of over 200 while Rahul's under 100. And he was supposed to be out of form. Huh! Anyway, Punjab - just like that - are at 59/0 in the powerplay.

Okay, we're starting. It's KL Rahul's birthday, and Chris Waokes - the nicest guy that he is - dishes out a nice juicy full one on the legs to get flicked into the boundary. And then in the very next over, Steve Smith puts him down too. Well, well. Birthdays just don't get better!

Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Steven Smith, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Marcus Stoinis, Lalit Yadav, Chris Woakes, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan, Lukman Meriwala

Punjab Kings (Playing XI): KL Rahul(w/c), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran, Shahrukh Khan, Jhye Richardson, Jalaj Saxena, Mohammed Shami, Riley Meredith, Arshdeep Singh

Delhi Capitals are bowling. Punjab Kings are batting. Guess who won the toss! Well, one interesting change is Steven Smith getting a game here, his debut of sorts. Also Jalaj Saxena is getting to play an IPL game after nearly ten years of slogging it out in the domestic circuit.

It's damn simple, you win the toss, YOU BOWL. You don't think, you just bowl.

While you hang around, do munch in on our preview, our bbb commentary and do hop over to Chennai where RCB have kept KKR on a leash.

Match #11:It's the North Derby. Two teams, two similar histories, two similar pretty up-and-down campaigns thus far, and two pretty similar dressing-room moods. Moods of disappointment, for Delhi to have thrown away a game that was clearly in their pocket against RR, and for Punjab to have crumbled the way they did against CSK. What'll also be interesting is the way this Wankhede pitch plays out tonight. After a couple of high-scorers and a couple of tacky tracks, who knows what's been churned up today. Nevertheless, someone's getting their campaign back on track tonight. And irrespective, it promises to be fun ..
