Prasidh Krishna is the latest from the Indian Premier League (IPL) to test positive for COVID-19. The news comes less than 24 hours after he was selected for India's tour of England as a standby player.

Cricbuzz has learnt that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer was negative while he was with the franchise in Ahmedabad where a couple of their players - Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier - had returned positive tests. However, sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and KKR revealed to this website that Krishna tested positive on returning home in Bangalore. "Until he left the bubble he was fine," a KKR source told Cricbuzz. The team had also quarantined for five days after two positive cases in the camp during the IPL.

The immediate fallout of the positive result is that the 25-year-old pacer's participation for the England tour will be made conditional. He will have to return negative tests before he can sit on the flight to England. "It will be subject to fitness clearance like Wriddhiman Saha, who too had tested positive while being in the IPL bubble," said a BCCI source. He has just three weeks to get into shape.

Krishna stormed his way into the Indian team on the back of some good showing in the last couple of years. He made his international debut in March against England and has so far played three ODIs.

Krishna's development looks like a ripple effect on KKR players as only on Saturday (May 8) morning it emerged that another player from the franchise, Tim Seifert of New Zealand, returned positive and had to cancel his plans to fly back home. He currently is quarantining in Ahmedabad.
