Chennai Super Kings have signed Barbadian seamer Dominic Drakes as an injury replacement for the remainder of IPL 2021. Drakes replaces Sam Curran who was ruled out with lower-back injury.
Drakes was already in the IPL bubble, having travelled to the UAE as a net bowler for one of the franchises.
The 23-year-old left-arm seamer, son of former West Indies cricketer Vasbert, was one of the stars of the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots side that recently clinched the Caribbean Premier League 2021 title. He finished with 16 wickets in the tournament – joint fourth-highest in the league.
His most decisive contribution through that tournament came with the bat when he blitzed 48* off 24 in the final.
As reported previously, CSK had sought a replacement player for the remaining matches and the BCCI had, in principle, approved the request.
As per the rules, a franchise can seek a replacement before their last game and Chennai sign off the league stage with a game against Punjab Kings on Thursday (October 7) afternoon.
