Cricket News By TODAYLIVESCORE.INFO - Red-hot DC stand in the way of RR's resurgence. Delhi Capitals crushed SRH in their first game back in the UAE leg of IPL 2021
Delhi Capitals crushed SRH in their first game back in the UAE leg of IPL 2021
Anrich Nortje sending David Warner back to the pavilion with a snorter was a significant moment in the overall narrative of Delhi Capitals' crushing win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It just reiterated the point that with Nortje and Kagiso Rabada in their ranks, DC have the required arsenal to run through sides, especially considering the prevailing conditions in Dubai. The pacemen employed the cross-seam delivery and hit more of the 8 metre short of a good length to share five wickets.
However, in the IPL, matches come thick and fast as DC's focus shifts to the other side of the Sheikh Zayed Road when they take on Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. Incidentally, in the IPL 2020, DC lost three of their five games in Abu Dhabi. The wicket in Abu Dhabi is relatively slower and DC's pack hunters – Rabada and Nortje – perhaps have to vary their pace a little more. In such conditions, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin could come in handy. Axar has good control and also surprises the batter with his scrambled seam variety.
With the batting unit also firing collectively, there aren't many concerns for the DC camp. Shikhar Dhawan has blended superbly with Prithvi Shaw at the top of the order. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Shimron Hetmyer and co. add more depth to the line-up. Meanwhile, their opponent for the day, RR, too will come into the match with loads of self belief after Kartik Tyagi pulled off a Houdini act in the final over versus Punjab Kings. At this crucial phase of the tournament, even a snippet of optimism could give a side the required momentum. And for a side like RR, grappling with the unavailability of key players, a come-from-behind win acts as the perfect tonic for the battles ahead.
Tyagi wasn't the only RR cricketer to shine brightly on that night as the side had a few more positives to take from the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mahipal Lomror, and RR's new recruit – Evin Lewis – grabbed their opportunities by making useful contributions. On the flip side, Chris Morris, IPL's most expensive buy, looked short of rhythm but the rest of the attack rallied around him well. Despite all the positives from the game, RR still find themselves in the mid-table quagmire and can't afford too many slip-ups.
When: Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals, September 25, 2021, 03:30 PM IST
Where: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
What to expect: Along with the track being on the slower side, the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium is the biggest cricket ground in the UAE. So the average first innings score is usually on the lower side. The dew doesn't exactly play a major role but chasing could still be the preferred option in Abu Dhabi in this season's IPL.
Head-to-head:Rajasthan Royals have a slender edge over Delhi Capitals, with 12 wins in 23 fixtures. This includes the incredible, close win earlier this season in Mumbai, when Jaydev Unadkat and Chris Morris combined to secure the two points.
Injuries: Stoinis pulled up a hamstring while bowling his second over against PBKS and is a doubt for the game versus RR.
Tactics/Match-ups: One of the interesting match-ups is Sanju Samson against Axar Patel. Samson has scored only 51 runs off 48 and has been dismissed twice by the left-arm spinner. Axar's twin weapons – scrambled seam and the one that goes on with the arm – could come in handy against a free-flowing batsman like Samson. The point can be further capsulised by how Samson attempted a cut stroke and fell to Axar's arm-ball in the IPL 2020.
Probable XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Marcus Stoinis/Steve Smith, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan
Injuries: No injury news has come out from the RR camp since the previous game.
Tactics/Matchups:Jaydev Unadkat has bagged 19 scalps at an average of 13.42 versus DC. His astounding record though comes with a caveat as Unadkat has been around in the IPL since the start of 2010 and DC's side has undergone plenty of changes over a period of time. Having said that, Unadkat has dismissed RR's tormentor – Pant – twice in the IPL, and the last time these two sides met, he finished with a three-for.
Probable XI: Evin Lewis, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c,wk), Liam Livingstone, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Chetan Sakariya, Kartik Tyagi, Mustafizur Rahman
Did you know?
– In the game versus SRH, Dhawan became the third player to aggregate 400+ runs in six or more consecutive seasons after Suresh Raina (2008-14) and David Warner (2013-20).
– RR's economy rate of 9.63 in the slog overs is the third best this season. In 2019 and 2020, RR had the worst economy rate during that phase of the innings.
What they said:
“So as far as I know, Stonis…we're just waiting for some results. He looks good, he seems to be fine. I just spoke him to this morning. But we're just waiting on some results, I think he's gone for a scan.” – Nortje on Stoinis's fitness.
