Andy Flower, the former Zimbabwe captain, has been appointed as Afghanistan's national team consultant for the 2021 T20 WC, the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced on Friday (October 9).
Flower, who coached the England team from 2009 to 2014 and helped them to lift the T20 WC 2010 in the West Indies, has joined the Afghanistan cricket bubble.
“We are delighted that Andy has joined ACB. Andy has worked with a number of our players in various franchise completions and his vast experience will be very beneficial and useful to help the team in the World Cup,” ACB chairman Azizullah Fazli said in a statement.
Flower played 63 Tests and 213 One-Day International matches for Zimbabwe before starting his coaching career, and since working with England he has had multiple coaching stints in various franchises and T20 leagues around the world, including IPL, CPL, PSL, and The Hundred.
The national cricket team left for Qatar from Kabul on October 6 and thereafter they are scheduled to reach the United Arab Emirates to participate in the World Cup.
