The AGM had to be postponed because of the pandemic situation
The Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be held on December 4. The date was notified to the state associations by the BCCI secretary office on Tuesday (October 9) night in the email stating that the elections for the two governing council members of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held. The BCCI AGM, which normally takes place in September-end, was postponed by three months in view of the pandemic situation.
“The Electoral Officer, Board of Control for Cricket in India (“BCCI”) hereby invites Full Members of the BCCI to submit applications to have their respective representatives (“Representatives”) included in the electoral roll for the election to be held at the General Meeting of the BCCI, on 4 December 2021(“BCCI Election”), for the posts of Two (2) members of the Governing Council (as members elected by the General Body under Rule 28(2)(i) of the BCCI Constitution),” the notification, seen by Cricbuzz, says.
As per the BCCI constitution, the IPL GC will have two members who need to be elected every year and one of them will, eventually, be the chairman. Conversely, it is significant for the current IPL chairman Brijesh Patel, who will have to seek re-election that day.
Apart from Brijesh, Khairul Jamal Majumdar from the North East is the other elected member to the seven-member Governing Council, which consist of two office-bearers (secretary and treasurer – Jay Shah and Arun Singh Dhumal), CEO (Hemang Amin), one representative from Players' Association (Pragyan Ojha) and a nominee of the CAG (CM Sane).
The Tuesday's notification, sent by the BCCI electoral officer AK Joti, outlines the process for the IPL GC members' election and invites each state association to nominate their members to the AGM. The process has already been set in motion by the officer on Tuesday. The notification also mentions that the election will be conducted between 12 noon to 2 pm with the result to follow at 3 pm.
A formal notification with full agenda for the AGM is expected soon.
