Cricket News By TODAYLIVESCORE.INFO - IPL GC on December 3 to decide on CVC Sports, media rights. The IPL GC meeting will be followed by the BCCI AGM the next day.
The IPL GC meeting will be followed by the BCCI AGM the next day.
The Governing Council (GC) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will meet in Kolkata on Friday (December 3). The fact that the meeting has been scheduled a day before the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the new GC will be constituted, is an indication that some important decisions are expected.
As has been reported by Cricbuzz, the GC will have to decide on the vexing issue of CVC Sports, whose acquisition of an IPL franchise has run into controversy. The Solicitor General of India has advised the BCCI to form a committee and the report of that panel will be taken up at the GC meet. The GC is expected to give a formal nod to the CVC Sports for the Ahmedabad franchise unless there is an unlikely last minute twist.
Also, the IPL body will have to finalise the media rights tender. The BCCI is already behind schedule on this as it had previously stated that the tender will be out immediately after the sale of two new teams on October 25. The GC is expected to finalise on the finer points of media rights tender.
Cricbuzz understands that Brijesh Patel of Karnataka and Khairul Jamal Majumdar from North East will be re-elected to the GC the next day and the former's term as the chairman of the IPL is all set to be extended by another year. It is learnt that only those two have filed the nomination for the GC membership. Pragyan Ojha will continue to be the representative of the players association.
The seven-member of GC consists of two office-bearers (secretary and treasurer – Jay Shah and Arun Singh Dhumal), CEO (Hemang Amin), one representative from Players' Association (Ojha), a nominee of the CAG (CM Sane) and two members elected by the AGM (Brijesh and Majumdar).
