Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha Magnificent from #DelhiCapitals to bring the game to where they did. They can be so proud of those last four overs 05:46 PM&nbsp&#149 Oct 10, 2021

KKR are in IPL 2021 final

They were knocked out of the playoffs because of net run rate in the last two seasons. They were seventh when they travelled to UAE and nobody gave them a chance. KKR are now in the IPL 2021 final and will take on CSK to win the title and script a sensational turnaround.

DC were no match for KKR today. With the bat they struggled. Dhawan got going and then lost all the momentum. Stoinis at No. 3 looked out of place and DC couldn't find an answer to KKR's middle overs challenge. KKR made things difficult for them and needed six off two at one stage after losing seven wickets in quick succession. Rahul Tripathi smashed the penultimate ball for a six to take the side home.

Venkatesh Iyer and Gill shut the door on Pant and Ponting's men with 96 for the opening wicket. Iyer got a half-century while Gill drove the side home. KKR won all their four matches in Sharjah. They will now go to Dubai where they've won one and lost one. CSK are the in form team. KKR are ensuring no team is being able to tame them. Who are you backing the final?

LAST OVER SO FAR – Dot, dot, wicket (Shakib), wicket (Narine) …

KKR need 7 off 6 …

Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha Right then…….3 in the last 2 overs and two wickets….Do we have a game here? 05:28 PM&nbsp&#149 Oct 10, 2021

Rabada turning it on

One run and a wicket. Tripathi played four dots and took a single. Dinesh Karthik went for a big slog and got bowled. KKR need 10 off 12.

First Rana and now Gill. DC have two quick wickets. KKR still on top and need only 11 off 20.

50 and out

Venkatesh Iyer has pulled a short ball to the square leg fielder in the deep. Rabada gets the wicket but is it a little too late? KKR have 96 on the board in the 13th over but DC now have a very small opening.

KKR 96 for 1

50 for Iyer

It's been a good game for two Iyers so far. Venkatesh Iyer has scored a half-century to ensure KKR keep moving forward and don't get stuck like Dhawan and Stoinis did. Nortje, DC's best bowler in IPL 2021, is feeling the heat too.

KKR 92 for no loss in 12 overs

Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha I fear the dew has taken over this game. These two young players, Gill and Iyer, have used the conditions and batted beautifully. 04:46 PM&nbsp&#149 Oct 10, 2021

10 overs done – KKR 76 for no loss; Need 60 off 60.

Powerplay done

KKR have reached 51 for no loss after the first six overs. Gill started the chase with a glorious cover drive on the first ball but it's Venkatesh Iyer who has got the big hits in. He's struck two fours and two sixes to make 31 off 20. Gill has been steady with 17 off 16. Rabada dropped a return catch from Iyer in the fifth over and DC haven't managed any other opportunity.

Alright then, Iyer and Gill to open. Nortje will bowl the first over of the chase …

Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha Game in the balance I think. If anything, a bit towards #KKR. 43 in the last 4 has kept #DelhiCapitals in the game 03:49 PM&nbsp&#149 Oct 10, 2021

KKR need 136 for a place in the IPL 2021 final

DC make 45 in the final five overs. Remember they were 71 for 1 at one stage in the 12th over. Pacers and Chakaravarthy put the breaks on. Hetmyer was caught at mid-on but Chakaravarthy had bowled a no ball. Iyer ensured Hetmyer wasn't out there to face the last nine balls. Iyer smashed the ball to point and called for a single. Hetmyer was run out by a mile and that probably has meant KKR has saved an additional ten runs.

Cricbuzz @cricbuzz Hetmyer looks for a non-existent run and is run-out! #IPL2O21 #DCvKKR 03:36 PM&nbsp&#149 Oct 10, 2021

Big moment

Chakaravarthy had Hetmyer caught at long-on. Gill had pulled off a superb catch but the bowler had just overstepped. Hetmyer had walked off but comes back with a big smile on his face. The free hit goes for just a single.

DC 99 in 4 in 17 overs.

Pant goes

Things are not working for DC here. Pant comes down the track to attack Ferguson. Mistimes the big hit to mid-off.

DC 90 for 4

15 overs done – DC 90 for 3

Three down

Dhawan struck two sixes early on after taking eight deliveries to get off the mark. His struggles have now ended with Chakaravarthy getting his caught at point. The opener goes for 36 off 39.

DC 83 for 3 in 14.1 overs

Mavi strikes

Stoinis makes room and slogs across the line. Bowled. Mavi has broken the 39-run stand but it took the pair 44 deliveries. Stoinis falls for 18 off 23.

DC 71 for 2 in 11.3 overs

10 overs done

Dhawan is on 29 off 30. Stoinis is on 15 off 18. DC are searching for runs and getting that occasional boundary. This game is in the balance.

DC 65 for 1

Seesaw battle

An interesting battle so far. Dhawan took eight deliveries to get off the mark but struck two sixes against Narine in the fourth over. Shaw put Shakib under pressure and got the innings going. The first four overs went to DC but Chakaravarthy strikes with his first ball to have Shaw lbw. KKR boss the middle overs and expect things to get even more interesting now.

DC 32 for 1

Hello and welcome to the live blog of the IPL 2021 Qualifier 2 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah. DC were in the final last year but lost to Mumbai Indians. KKR haven't reached the finals since 2014. One team is going to get close to IPL glory today. One team will have their dreams shattered.

Before we get going with the clash, here's Pratyush Sinha's preview –

Couple of years ago at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the groundsman had assured Ricky Ponting of producing the venue's “best pitch” of the season thus far. It was clearly the best bet for a Delhi Capitals side that had beaten Mumbai Indians in flat conditions of the Wankhede but struggled on the low, slow pitches back home. Come the judgement day against Sunrisers Hyderabad, DC lost again, on yet another sluggish pitch, prompting Ponting to call the surface “by far and away, the worst.”

Familiar conditions will greet DC's head coach for Qualifier 2 in Sharjah but what stands changed from 2019 is the make-up of the side. Pacers Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan might have grabbed the headlines but the spinners have been quietly going about their job, picking the third-most number of wickets behind their counterparts in Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. And they have done so in a significantly lesser number of overs than say KKR. What DC would want, though, is for Ravichandran Ashwin to strike form; the offspinner has picked only 5 wickets in 12 matches and hasn't even bowled out his quota of overs in the last two games.

For KKR, the occasion is perfect in Sharjah. They play a second consecutive knockout game at one of their favourite venues, face an opposition coming in with two back-to-back defeats and know how to beat them in these conditions, having done so earlier in the competition. Incidentally, Sunil Narine was the one who made all the difference with the bat and ball in that match too.

After their four-wicket win over RCB in the Eliminator, captain Eoin Morgan acknowledged how the bowlers have led with “Baz's mantra” of free-spirited cricket in the UAE leg. But if they are to move past the all-round challenge of DC, the batsmen will have to join in too. None of them feature in the top ten run-getters this season as opposed to three from DC but there are sparks. The KKR batsmen have already shown nous and game plan in Sharjah, using the shorter boundaries to hit sixes and making the playing conditions redundant, and it's about time that the finishers amp up their game too. Dinesh Karthik and Morgan have averaged 27 and 13 respectively this season, and it reflects in how KKR have the worst death-over batting stats of all the four qualified teams.
