Prelude – Can West Indies find series parity?

History and their weak batting returns since 2021 suggests they cannot, but never say never. In the first ODI, they were undone early, but India's new-ball potency through Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar, and need to find quick fixes. Batting better may sound simple but is the tall order of the day for the visitors today. If they can combine a bit of patience and a lot more of application, they should do be able to give a far better account of themselves than they did three days ago.

India had a comfortable start, with bowlers doing most of the heavy-lifting and earning advantage at the halfway stage. More of that should be on the agenda. Yuzvendra Chahal also bowled exceptionally well on return.
