Kartik Tyagi pulls off a stunning final-over heist!

What has just happened in Dubai! Incredible, incredible finish! PBKS needed 10 off 15 at one point, which was then brought down to just 4 off the last over. And then Kartik Tyagi – the young, uncapped Kartik Tyagi – bowled an over that read: 0 1 W 0 W 0! Amazing scenes as RR players run onto the field! Spare a thought for KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal who set the chase up so perfectly. This has become a habit for this side now to throw games away from such positions of advantage. What an absolute jailbreak from RR, who will now go level on points with Mumbai Indians! Their campaign is well and truly alive here!

Wonder if Sanju Samson should've brought Mustafizur back a little earlier, before the game sort of slipped away from him. These are, afterall, Mustafizur's T20 numbers this year.

Mayank follows suit, but PBKS are on course

Mayank's fantastic innings ends on 67. He aimed to make room by going outside the leg stump to smash one inside out over covers but Tewatia saw that and delivered wider outside the offstump and got Mayank to miscue his hit. PBKS are two down for 126.

Sakariya Strikes!

Fourth time's the charm for RR as they finally hold on to a catch coming their way from Rahul's bat. Sakariya gets the PBKS captain to edge away from his body, and Tyagi completes the catch at short third man. A wicket at last, but is it too late for RR?

FIFTY for Mayank!

Mayank has taken over the baton of run-scoring here from his good friend Rahul here. It has coincided with really poor bowling from RR, who are struggling with dew. PBKS have raced away to 100 for the first wicket in just the 10th wicket.

2, 29, 31 – Those are the scores that KL Rahul has been on when RR have fluffed a catching chance. Three let offs so far the PBKS captain. THREE!

The CricViz Analyst @cricvizanalyst Rajasthan Royals have caught very badly this season. They've dropped 12 chances – the only side to drop more are Mumbai Indians. #IPL2021 #PBKSvRR 04:46 PM&nbsp&#149 Sep 09, 2021

Brisk start for PBKS

KL Rahul is up and running here.. and he's taken on Chetan Sakariya in the fifth over. Two lovely sixes – one straight and one off a pull over long leg. He also brings up 3000 IPL runs!

RR finish with 185!

They should've easily got at least 20-25 more given the platform set by Lomror but Shami and Arshdeep's death bowling tied them down! Shami finished with three wickets while Arshdeep wrapped up the innings with a five-wicket haul in the 20th over. Despite that stutter towards the end, RR still finished with 185, thanks to the earlier efforts of Jaiswal, Lomror and Lewis. Should be a fascinating chase!

Lomror blitz comes to an end…

He walks back for a 17-ball 43, giving Arshdeep Singh his third wicket of the game.

6 6 4 2NB 2 2 4: Mahipal Lomror lays into Deepak Hooda!

Incredible hitting from the left-hander, who was once dubbed ‘chota Chris Gayle' by Chandrakant Pandit. The 24-run over pushes RR to 164/4 in 16 overs, setting them up for a 200?

Adil Rashid: 3 overs | 6 Dots | 35 Runs | 0 Wickets

Not the best debuts for one of the finest leggies in the world currently…

Vinodh Varadhanameti @kumarvinodham @PrakashG_CB Adil Rashid normally on top of all international T20 batsmen. Today is different day with Indian domestic batsmen 03:15 PM&nbsp&#149 Sep 09, 2021

No fifty for Yashasvi Jaiswal!

Agony for the opener. He was starting to get into a shell in search of that half-century, but fell for 49! The impressive Harpreet Brar drew him forward and induced a leading edge that was very sharply taken by Mayank Agarwal at cover. He walks off for a 36-ball 49, but Rajasthan Royals are still on course for a total in excess of 170.

Blinder from Allen!

Not for the first time, Fabian Allen has made jaws drop with his catching skills in the deep. Liam Livingstone was getting more and more confident in his cameo, and thought he'd connected well on the pull off Arshdeep Singh, but Allen put in a dive and pouched the ball while being parallel to the ground. Exceptional!

Harsh but a point worth pondering over…

DHRUV @brahmcharibaba @PrakashG_CB I don't know why Sanju Samson is rated so highly. He averages mid 20s even after 100+ IPL innings and batting top of the order… 02:55 PM&nbsp&#149 Sep 09, 2021

Sanju Samson – Ishan Porel's first IPL wicket!

Good captaincy (and catching) from KL Rahul! He's brought back Ishan Porel after the pacer went for 25 in two overs when Evin Lewis was still in the middle. He's repaid that faith by getting the RR captain to nick behind for just three.

End of PowerPlay: RR 57/1

If not for that dismissal in the final over, the start overwhelmingly belonged to the batting side. Lewis was looking dangerous in the brief time he was there, but he's gone now. It's still worth pointing out that he may have done the sort of damage that RR were hoping for at the top, giving the side close to 10-an-over. The question is, can the rest – including Samson – capitalise?

Arshdeep ends Lewis's debut

A leg-cutter does the trick against the West Indian. He was looking to smash everything coming at him and went for the same on this occasion too, only to slice the ball towards cover where Mayank took a neat, forward-diving catch. This brings Sanju Samson to the middle…

Lewis is up and away…

It took him a while but Ishan Porel has bowled the sort of lengths that he has constantly put away in the CPL and in West Indies colours this year.

As Evin Lewis walks out to bat, here's a little tidbit from our statsman Deepu Narayanan…

Lewis was the leading run-getter in the home season for West Indies and the second highest run-getter and leading six-hitter in CPL.

RR fans, be very excited!

Below are the T20 numbers for Liam Livingstone and Evin Lewis in 2021…

No on-field birthday celebration for Chris Gayle as Punjab Kings leave him out. They've gone with the in-form Aiden Markram instead for the top of the order. Adil Rashid also debuts, while Nicholas Pooran and Fabien Allen take the other overseas slots. Rajasthan Royals go with Evin Lewis and Liam Livingstone to join Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman. It also means the World's #1 T20I spinner Tabraiz Shamsi remains on the bench.

One surprising omission from PBKS is Shahrukh Khan. The big-hitter did well in the India leg of the season, sometimes even having to drag his team out of an early collapse…

Playing XIs:

Rajasthan Royals: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Evin Lewis, Sanju Samson(w/c), Liam Livingstone, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya, Kartik Tyagi

Punjab Kings: KL Rahul(w/c), Mayank Agarwal, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Fabian Allen, Adil Rashid, Harpreet Brar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel

A lot of eyes will expectedly be on Evin Lewis who is currently in the form of his life, but we'd like to turn the spotlight on the Yashasvi Jaiswal, Lewis's opening partner. Here's our Cricbuzz Plus feature on the youngster, written by Kritika Naidu.

RR: Played 7 | Won 3 | Lost 4 | Points 6 | NRR -0.190

PBKS: Played 8 | Won 3 | Lost 5 | Points 6 | NRR -0.368

The season began for these two sides in the most dramatic way possible. Remember? KL Rahul smashes 91 and then RR get caught absolutely unaware by Deepak Hooda's six-binge in a 28-ball 64. Sanju Samson then responds with fabulous century, but earns all the focus or brickbats, based on how you viewed it at the time, when he denied a single to Chris Morris in the last-over chase and lost it eventually on the last ball.

Punjab struggled with losses since, and haven't been able to string together two successive wins. Rahul as usual is gunning for that top spot in the batting charts, only behind Shikhar Dhawan at the moment, but a lot else hasn't worked. They've also had a big change of personnel since then with so many unavailabilities.

Rajasthan's fate and trajectory has been eerily similar. They've lost big guns to injury and unavailability, and are yet to earn two wins on the bounce. But having played one game lesser, two points today could catapult them to fourth spot, if they can manage a big win and usurp Mumbai Indians on the basis of NRR.

Clash of the classy captains? It sure looks that way…

KL vs Sanju: Who is winning this contest tonight?

Prelude : 6th vs 7th in race for top-4

Another season, another story of crashing and burning through the league stage for the perennial underperformers Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. Past the midway stage, both teams are again a few steps away from being in contention for the playoffs, and have a fight on their hands now, with a few new players in. Tough ask.

But when Kumar Sangakkara says,The greatest stories in cricket are written by the ones written off, you have got to believe him and the optimism he's imparting over a minute and 40 seconds here…
