South Africa are looking for a clean sweep
SA win 3-0
Similar story. Feels very similar to the last game, just that this time Reeza Hendricks got a fifty too and the openers did the job for South Africa. Quinton de Kock looked in fine touch once again. A target of 121 was never going to be enough, especially when the dew came along and made conditions easier for batting.
Chase: 46/0 in the PowerPlay
It’s deja vu all over again for Sri Lanka. South Africa have no difficulty motoring along in chase. Quinton de Kock has hit 4 boundaries, Reeza Hendrics has pocketed a two fours a six. All too easy, all too serene.
Sri Lanka make 120/8
Familiar script. Sri Lanka opted to bat, lost a few early wickets to pace and spin in the powerplay and there was no coming back from that. Perera’s wicket in the 13th over meant that anything around 140 was not attainable but a couple of sixes lower down the order by Chamika Karunaratne ensured that Sri Lanka at least have something to bowl at.
And Perera is out
Maharaj has done it for South Africa. Bowls from round the wicket to the left-hander and gets the ball to pitch in line. That was enough, for there’s consistent turn from this pitch now. 80/5 definitely looks bad after opting to bat first.
Kusal Perera holds key
In the last game, Sri Lanka lost 5 for 25 odd runs once Kusal Perera got out. The hosts would want to avoid a repeat here and for that it’s key the opener bats through. He’s looked alright during his 24-ball 31* even though it’s only his second game after he contracted covid-19. Kamindu Mendis’s wicket in the 10th over to Aiden Markram’s part-time spin won’t help matters though. At the halfway mark, Sri Lanka are 62/4. Can they get to 145?
Early wickets rattle Sri Lanka
Three wickets in 14 balls. Avishka Fernando is caught and bowled by Rabada to kick off things before Dhananjaya de Silva is stumped off the bowling of Fortuin. Rabada comes back to strike in the next over, bowling Rajapaksa after softening him with short and hard lengths. Sri Lanka seem to have come out with some run-making intent but are perhaps going too hard at everything.
Toss and teams
Sri Lanka win the toss and opt to bat first. Interesting, given that they did the same thing last time around and were bundled out. Chandimal, Praveen and Asalankaare out whereas Avishka, Kamindu and Lahiru Madushanka come into the side. For South Africa, Wiaan Mulder has been included in the place of Anrich Nortje.

Hello and welcome to our live blog for the third and final T20I between Sri Lanka the South Africa. The hosts have lost the series 2-0 and will be looking to avoid a whitewash as they fine-tune their preparations for the T20 WC. For South Africa, though, a 3-0 series win will be a real shot in the arm, especially that it’ll be achieved in subcontinent conditions. The pitch is against expected to be sporty but will the game turn out to be similar?
