Minor League Cricket Week 8: Rovman Powell Hits 38-ball 71Philadelphians failed to win a must-win game against Stallions as Powell helped chase 174 in under 17 overs

Atlantic Conference

The NJ Stallions and Empire State Titans advance to meet Morrisville Cardinals and Atlanta Fire respectively for the conference semifinals. The Stallions and the Titans claimed their playoff berth from the Eastern Division after the Philadelphians failed to win a must win game against the Stallions as West indies international Rovman Powell pulverized their playoff hopes with a 38 ball 71 to have the Stallions overhaul their target of 174 in under 17 overs.

In the Southern Division, the Cardinals held onto their playoff spot after the Atlanta Param Veers failed to win their 2 last encounters against Fire. The Param Veers were guaranteed a playoff spot at the expense of the Cardinals provided they beat Fire in both their encounters past weekend. The Fire rather inflicted two final over heartbreaks for the Param Veers. The Param Veers capitulated from winning positions. Amila Aponso swatted one over the fence when Fire needed 5 off 3 in the first game while squandering away a relatively favorable equation of defending 39 in the last 4 overs in the final encounter.

Pacific Conference

The Austin Athletics square off against the Silicon Valley Strikers while the Houston Hurricanes lock horns with the Golden State Grizzlies for the Pacific conference playoffs. The Athletics aced the Central division points table comfortably while the Hurricanes beat the Irving Mustangs in a do or die encounter. The Hurricanes win effectively meant curtains for the Michigan Cricket Stars despite decimating their opponents in the final two encounters with a 101 run and a 5-wicket win.

With the Grizzlies already booking their berth, Strikers edged out the East Bay Blazers for the second playoff spot from the Western Division. Riding on a superior net run rate, the Blazers needed a solitary win off their final two league games but frittered away out of contention with 2 losses despite some individual brilliances from Sujith Gowda (84 off 47) and Arshdeep Brar (50 off 32) against the Strikers and Grizzlies respectively.
