New Skipper Nigar Sultana Expects Support From Senior TrioBangladesh's skipper has her hopes high about the team's chances for qualification

Bangladesh women's team newly appointed skipper Nigar Sultana feels the senior trio – Salma Khatun, Jahanara Alam, Rumana Ahmed – will make her job easy during the upcoming ICC World Cup Qualifier, starting from November 21 at Zimbabwe.

Nigar's appointment as the captain for the qualifier came as a surprise considering there were three former national skippers in Salma, Jahanara and Rumana in the team.

”Of course, I have learnt a lot from them (Salma, Jahanara, Rumana). I took suggestions from them in different moments of the game whenever they played under my leadership during practice games or any tournament. They also guided me a lot and I am expecting their support in the future,” Nigar told Cricbuzz.

”Their presence makes the job easier for a captain. When you have experienced players in the team who have a lot of knowledge as a captain you will feel very lucky. Because they know their role and they know how to handle the pressure. I feel I am super lucky because I am somehow leading the team but they will make my job easier,” she said.

”Actually, I am not excited because I am not thinking too much about my captaincy. I am just focusing on the upcoming qualifier firstly as top-order batter because my primary job is to contribute with the bat. Captaincy is a responsibility and I am relishing the challenge but firstly I have to remember that I have to lead the team from the front and that needs to be done with my bat,” she said.

Bangladesh, who previously played four Women's T20 WC, had never been successful to reach the main stage of the 50-over World Cup. Bangladesh will begin their ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier campaign when they take on their Pakistan counterparts in the opening Group B match in Harare, Zimbabwe today.

”I think this is our best chance to qualify for the World Cup. This time every player has one dream to be qualified and to play World Cup. We are moving forward keeping World Cup goal in mind and I hope we will do well there,” said Nigar.

”I am focusing match by match. Look at the men's T20 WC and it suggests cricket is anyone's game and funny game. Cricket is unpredictable and we cannot take any team lightly. We don't know enough about Pakistan, Thailand or USA's strength. We just knew their performance through media but we did not watch their game live,” she said.
