England Women wrapped up the summer with a crushing 203-run win over New Zealand, finishing the series 4-1 in the lead. Tammy Beaumont scored a free-flowing 102 as England notched up 347 for 5 – their highest total against New Zealand. It proved too much for the visitors who collapsed to 144 all out in only 35.2 overs.
Sent in to bat, openers Winfield Hill and Beaumont added 95 runs for the first wicket, thus setting up a very good platform for the middle order. It was well utilized by Amy Ellen Jones, who smashed 60 off 46, and Danielle Wyatt, who hit a whirlwind 43* off only 20 balls, an innings that included 3 fours and 4 sixes. New Zealand bowlers were hit to all parts of the ground as Hannah Rowe, the most successful bowler on the day, finished with 2 for 65.
A target of 348 was always going to be a tall task for jaded New Zealand at the back end of an overseas tour, and so it proved. The visitors lost openers Suzie Bates and Lauren Down cheaply before sliding to 66 for 5 soon after. Kate Cross and Heather Knight finished with three wickets each as New Zealand struggled to get any sort of partnerships going.
