Profile for Robbie Frylinck. Profile Updated On 12 Monday April 2021 180340000000
Frylinck is an explosive South African all-rounder playing for KwaZulu-Natal and the Sunfoil Dolphins. At his peak, he was seen by many as a natural successor to Proteas legend Lance Klusener. A veteran of 212 domestic matches, his career spans over a decade, dating back to his List-A debut in 2004. Frylinck is also part of an exclusive club that has scored over 3,000 runs and taken 300 wickets across the three formats in South African domestic cricket.

Regarded as a late developer, he didn’t feature for Natal at age-group level, but his performances in club cricket drew the attention of KZN’s Academy. He made his List-A debut in October 2004, then first-class debut a year later, taking figures of 6-94. He was included in the South African National Academy Squad in 2006.

Despite appearing for KZN and the Dolphins in 16 first-class matches in 2007/08, he was excluded from their contracted players list for 2008/09 and subsequently moved to Surrey under the Kolpak ruling in 2008.

Later, he returned to South Africa and joined the Lions Franchise. He played just two Pro20 games in the 2008/09 season but his performances for the amateur team earned him a contract for the following season. In 2009/10, he starred, topping the Pro20 wicket charts (14 wickets at 16.21) and was nominated for Cricket South Africa’s Pro20 “Player of the Year”.

Frylinck was signed by the Delhi Daredevils for their 2011 Indian Premier League campaign, but failed to feature in the tournament. Nevertheless, he enjoyed a productive 2011/12 season in South Africa, taking 33 wickets and has since, been a key performer for the Dolphins. Having not returned to Northern shores since the second of his 2-year stint in 2008, he returned for a third season in 2016.
