Profile for Hamza Tariq. Profile Updated On 04 Tuesday August 2020 170440000000
Hamza Tariq was born in Pakistan and migrated to Canada as a child. Having grown up playing cricket in Pakistan, he carried his passion across the Atlantic to pursue it in Canada. He rose through the ranks in grade cricket and made a strong case as a wicketkeeper-batsman in the circuit before being shortlisted for the Canada U-19 team.

One of the most promising players in recent times from Canada, Tariq traveled with the team to India for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Despite not getting a game in the tournament, he continued to work hard on his cricket and finally made his ODI debut later that year in the World Cricket League against Afghanistan. His style of batting has been compared to greats like Ricky Ponting, and he himself idolizes Adam Gilchrist as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

Tariq made his T20 debut soon after against Kenya, and later molded his style of play for the T20 format. He was named as a part of Canada’s side for the World Cricket League division 2 in 2018 and was also named as a part of the squad for the 2018/19 T20 WC qualifiers. After molding his game into an aggressor’s role, Tariq has grabbed the eyeballs of several T20 leagues. He represented the Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 league in Canada, and for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
