Another product of the U-19 system, Ken McClure hit headlines for the wrong reasons in September 2017 after he was involved in a drunken brawl which saw the 23-year old being arrested by the local police. McClure was sentenced to 200 hours of community service, including 12 months of supervision and financial reparation after he pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault. Ironically, it was Ben Stokes who replaced him at Canterbury for the rest of the season.

Third highest run-getter for New Zealand in the 2014 U-19 world cup, McClure graduated slowly and steadily. He made his first-class debut for Auckland in 2015 before moving to Canterbury a year later. McClure became one of the prolific run-scorers in the domestic arena having piled close to 1500 runs in just 25 matches at an average of 37. With age still by his side, McClure is a bright prospect for New Zealand cricket. He posted his career-best score of 210 against his old club Auckland but the match was controversially called off because the pitch was deemed unsafe.
