Joshua Da Silva fell just before Lunch as Sri Lanka ended a fighting century stand
A rain threat lurking around in a game in Sri Lanka is a constant. The overnight rain did throw some jitters but the groundsmen soaked the ground dry enough for an in time start. And post that Nkrumah Bonner and Joshua Da Silva did enough to frustrate the home side as they ended the first session on the final day at 125/7.
It was a partnership that started on Day 4 with a hapless West Indies reduced to 18/6, struggling against the Lankan spin. It went on late into the first session on Day 5 as they added 100 before Da Silva fell with a few overs to go for Lunch.
The cricket in the first session was full of attrition and some dogged determination. Sri Lanka tried their ploys and created chances but the rub of the green went in favour the Windies batters. At least three chances in the first hour or so went abegging as Da Silva and Bonner put the victory celebrations of the Sri Lankan fans at bay. Even a run out chance was missed with Da Silva being the one reprieved.
Da Silva also managed to reach his fifty but he didn't carry on for too long post that as he edged a Lasith Embuldeniya to slip. Bonner remained unbeaten on 42, with Rahkeem Cornwall for company.
Brief scores: Sri Lanka 386 & 191/4 decl lead West Indies 230 and 125/7 (Joshua Da Silva 54, Nkrumah Bonner 42*, Ramesh Mendis 4-41, Lasith Embuldeniya 3-37) by 222 runs.
