Taijul picked three wickets
Taijul Islam helped Bangladesh make a strong comeback in the opening session on the third day against Pakistan. In Chattogram, Pakistan lost four wickets and scored 58 in the session to reach 203 for 4 in response to Bangladesh's 330.
On the second day, the Bangladesh bowlers had to struggle for 57 overs and failed to pick up a wicket. They didn't have to wait much longer as Taijul removed Abdullah Shafique (52) and Azhar Ali on consecutive deliveries in the opening over. Both batters were trapped lbw before Babar Azam played out the hat-trick ball.
Ten overs into the day, Abid Ali brought up his fourth Test ton with a couple against Taijul to ensure Pakistan continued to fight. Mehidy Hasan, however, landed a crucial punch in the 73rd over when he had Babar bowled for 10. Ali and Babar had scored 23 off 88 and were settling in but the wicket meant the visitors were forced into another period of reconsolidation. Ali continued to fight – and survived a DRS challenge against him – but Taijul removed Fawad Alam to dent Pakistan even further.
Ali too had his fair share of luck as an outside edge against Taijul flew past the first slip before Pakistan crossed the 200-run mark. Pakistan still trail by 127 and Ali will be crucial in closing the gap and will have Mohammad Rizwan for company.
Brief Scores: Bangladesh 330 (Liton Das 114; Hasan Ali 5-51) lead Pakistan 203/4 (Abid Ali 127*; Taijul Islam 3-70) by 127 runs.
