Rathour has already had one term as the batting coach of the team
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to appoint T Dilip, Paras Mhambrey and Vikram Rathour as fielding, bowling and batting coaches of the Indian team. All will work under head coach Rahul Dravid, who was instrumental in having the three appointed to his support staff.
The interviews for the three are understood to have taken place on Thursday. As per the Supreme Court-approved constitution, the selectors will have to pick the coaches and the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will have to choose the head coach, but the process for these appointments are yet to be ascertained.
Dilip, a Hyderabad-based fielding coach previousl travelled with the Indian team to Sri Lanka under Dravid in July. Incidentally, the outgoing fielding coach, R Sridhar, was also from Hyderabad.
The appointment of Mhambrey was on the expected lines given the long association the former Mumbai pacer had with Dravid at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Under-19 and India A teams. Dravid himself has admitted that he is comfortable working with the 49-year-old Mumbaikar, who played two Tests and three ODIs in the late 90s.
Rathour (52) was also an automatic choice given that he has had good reviews from the Indian team. He recently disclosed that he had applied for the position.
All three will have to report at Jaipur ahead of the first match against New Zealand, a Twenty20 International, on November 17. India play two more T20Is and two Tests against New Zealand before flying to South Africa.
